Herefordshire sunsets December 2020

Photos of Herefordshire sunsets in December 2020

I’ve decided to continue with occasional photo blogs, after the response to my Photos from Inside a Lockdown series. This week I’m looking back at some of the amazing sunsets that I’ve experienced when walking my dogs in the afternoons in the woods and orchards near Ledbury, Herefordshire.

This time of year – in December – in England, and most certainly in Herefordshire, the sunsets can be truly awe inspiring. I walk my dogs in the afternoons, and mostly around sunset time, so I get to experience them first hand.

The dogs and I explore the woods, fields and orchards around Ledbury, getting to know the many peaceful places around our home. As a photographer I really notice light, and am particularly awe struck some days as the colours change in the space of a few minutes.

Many years ago I noticed there was a green tinge to the light near sunset – very briefly, lasting just a minute or so. That’s less noticeable at this time of year, but instead there’s a glowing peach colour for a while – and sometimes, a ‘watery’ yellow that must certainly have inspired the English painter JMW Turner.

So here’s a few of the more memorable sunsets I’ve experienced in the past few weeks of December 2020.

Until next time, stay safe.
